Fremde Wasser - Denglers dritter Fall (Wolfgang Schorlau) is less futuristic but also deals with the power of global water companies and the problematic privatization of water supply.

Kyoto och fjärilarna (Lennart Ramberg) is an interesting Swedish thriller about climate research and especially recommended to PhD students (although the adventures of the main character makes the life of any of my students looking pretty dull).
